The only requirement is that you support President Rodrigo Duterte and his vision and actions for the change in the country.

This was the reply of Gemma Sotto, Duterte Die-hard Supporter (DDS) Global Leader, when asked about what it takes to be a DDS member.

During an interview on PTV, three distinct figures of the DDS family shared about the formation of the worldwide group.
Sotto narrated how support groups for Duterte sprung internationally, particularly in New York City where she lives, because of the stories of Duterte’s good governance in Davao City as Mayor.

“The [DDS] group started during election time,” Sotto said.

“Ang support namin kay president Duterte ay dahil ako’y taga-Davao, so, from my country sa New York, ang basis namin [DDS Global] ay dahil alam ko ang governance ni Mayor Duterte, that’s where it started,” she explained.

As the leader of the DDs global community, Sotto relayed that most of them abroad think of the wonderful change that would happen once Duterte becomes president.

Sotto furthered that the DDs community keeps growing exponentially that they could not even keep count.

“There’s no concrete number [of members], it just keeps growing and growing, and these communities we have now, this global DDS community, they just come together,” she said.

Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Director Princess Duque said they accumulated members through social media.

“That’s the beauty of social media now because during the time of the campaign back in 2016, everybody (sic) were sharing their sentiments online,” Duque said.

“We saw different postings from people and movements all over the world, of what they’re doing and their efforts and (sic) volunteerism act of showing support for President Duterte, and that’s when we contacted them, we engaged them,” she added.

DDs supporters are spread throughout the world and come together through online interactions, but now, on the ground meet-upsand conventions for the President’s support group are coming up.

DDS Representative from Hawaii Janis Salcedo reports that this year there will be a gathering DDS supporters from 19 countries around the world compared to only 17 last year.
In pursuit of advocacies and programs that support Duterte, the DDS community continues to foster and grow, confident in the change that is coming.
