“Free Wi-Fi for all” more like “no Wi-FI” and billions of pesos lost

Back during the administration of former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) had a 6.5-billion peso project that would provide free Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) for all.

It was a five-year project known as “Internet for All” that started in 2015, fast-forward to December 2017 and the Commission on Audit (COA) starts questioning this multi-billion project. How far has this project progressed?

Back in 2016, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte took the place of Noynoy, the project was renamed “Pipol konek” and yet what has the DICT have done?

They were initially funded with 4.8-billion pesos back in January 2015, yet the COA has come to a conclusion that this project has a “very low performance rate.”

Yes the intentions were great, a project that would benefit everyone, yet how much more time would this sluggish project need?

We need to know where this 6.5-billion peso project is going because if it isn’t getting anywhere then it is as good as a failed one. A project that has been used to probably line the pockets of the corrupt government officials behind it, but this is all just an opinion.
