“I am sorry to have felt the need to write to you personally, however I was absolutely shocked and saddened to see a photo online of a Filipina worker in your country, sitting outside a restaurant crouched down, almost treated like a dog who had been tied up outside and was waiting for its master to return and release it!!,” Malcom wrote to Prime Minister Lee.

“I am totally dismayed by the way this lady had been treated. If the family could not afford to allow the Filipina to dine with them in the restaurant, then maybe they should question if they could afford to employ anyone at all?”

"AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF SINGAPORE.

FAO: Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong

Your Excellency,

I am sorry to have felt the need to write to you personally, however I was absolutely shocked and saddened to see a photo online of a Filipina worker in your country, sitting outside a restaurant crouched down, almost treated like a dog who had been tied up outside and was waiting for its master to return and release it!!!

We are in the 21st right century and one would have hoped that the days of slavery had come to an end, I would please ask that this fact is communicated to the harsh, ruthless, despicable, so called employers of this poor Filipina.

I am totally dismayed by the way this lady had been treated. If the family could not afford to allow the Filipina to dine with them in the restaurant, then maybe they should question if they could afford to employ anyone at all?

The fact is, the family in question should have treated this poor lady like one of their own family. Would they also treat their children in such a manner? What lessons are being taught to their own children, by the way, that they could treat a fellow human like this?

I am married to a filipino and love the country and people very much, I regard the Filipino people as my friends so I am sure you can imagine, I was utterly distressed to see this image of a Filipino citizen treated like this.

I hope you are able to ensure that this outrageous abuse of human rights is properly investigated?

I am also quite sure Singapore is a very respectful and nice country and that the people of Singapore are very polite, respectful and well educated, so I am quite sure that you were therefore also appalled like me to learn of this outrageous public display of behaviour.

Thank you so much sir for your time and understanding.

Humbly yours

Malcolm Conlan
